This is the question I was asked during a talk I gave to Seed the Future Program organized by Shinhan Future’s Lab Vietnam.
Question: Thank you, Mr. Hung. We have question from Ms. Tien Hoang. To build a super team, the belief (of being) together is very important. But inside (the team), teammates can doubt each other. So how we can manage this issue?

Answer: Yeah, it’s about integrity. It’s about what you do. It’s about about transparency. It’s just like, I mean, I take the other example. I have my little daughter, right? And growing her up, teaching her day is not that easy. So, for example, if you tell her, I tell her that you need to keep your integrity, meaning that you cannot lie. You cannot tell a lie to anyone. But when my friends call me. And if I don’t want to talk to him or her and ask my little daughter. Hey, can you pick up the phone and have that your dad is not here so that I don’t have to talk to him or her, I mean, my friends. If you do that then the little girl would be confused. So I teach her not telling a lie. But then I ask her to tell a lie for me. So it would send out the confusion kinda thinking into her head. You can not do that and hope that your little daughter would be keeping integrity at all costs later on. The same thing in the team, right? That’s the first thing I would recommend.
All of the issue I have seen so far mostly started from selection, meaning that you recruit the wrong one. And in order to recruit the right one, it is hard. I don’t say that it’s easy. So you need to learn a lot. Maybe five years, maybe ten years. But assuming that you have recruit the right one, then it’s the behavior, it’s the culture, it’s the transparency, it’s the integrity, openness and then caring, those practices would bring people together. And as a leader, you need to really create a lot of samples for that, from your life, from how you act, from how you talk and how you think. And then eventually, it would form the culture of the team. If you have time, then I suggest you to refer to my blog post called “the seven sustainable leadership quality” kinda things. You go on my website and then you could see that there. Actually, I wrote that article for The Leader, a magazine, during the Tet time. So in that article I do have quite a few suggestions for people to grow their leadership. But basically, if you can do that, you can build great team. And it’s not just great team, but then a great life as well. Happiness.
